BALACHAUR: After the discovery of hundreds of female foetuses near Patiala, a new-born girl has reportedly been found murdered, exposing the hollowness of a society already fighting a skewed sex ratio.
A new-born girl was allegedly killed and then buried in a room by her mother and grandmother in Khurdan village. The corpse was exhumed on Monday after the matter was reported to the police by the woman’s in-laws.
The accused, Amandeep Kaur alias Rimpi (24), was married to Budh Ram of Moharan village a few years back and had one son. Her husband was working abroad and used to come home occasionally.
Balachaur DSP Sucha Singh said there was some misunderstanding between the husband-wife and the former had left his pregnant wife with her parents before going abroad.
Amandeep reportedly delivered the baby on August 16, and in consultation with her mother Surjit Kaur, she killed the baby just after birth and then buried her under a box in a room inside the house.
However, after some days her in-laws learnt about the birth and inquired about it. Amandeep and her mother told them the child died after birth. Suspecting foul play, her mother-in-law contacted the village panchayat and also lodged a police report.
Following this, the police questioned the women. After they revealed the location, the corpse was exhumed from the room.
